The Alliance for Continued Learning (ACL) was founded by a few people who realized that one key to graceful aging was to remain mentally active.
The most important characteristic of our group is that we are member driven. We are self supporting and do all of our own programming. Our program committee changes yearly and is open to all members which leads to diversity of our selections.
Variety of our content has always been important. Our brochure highlights the variety of classes we offer, including:
About ½ of our presenters are from ETSU, about ½ from the community. Our ESTU presenters invariably comment on the high level of participation from our members compared to their traditional students.
Another great feature of our organization is the opportunity for socialization. New-comers and old-timers are equally welcome. We have charter members (from 1991) still active, and many newer members who have been in the Johnson City area for two years or less. We are a great place to get connected and make friends.
